Alignment with Ashtanga Influence
This class blends Iyengar and Ashtanga styles of yoga, creating a class environment that encourages safe practice while challenging students to build strength and flexibility. Iyengar brings attention to alignment of the body, longer holds in the poses, the use of props and class themes. Ashtanga brings heat – Sun Salutations – and breath coordinated movement often referred to as “vinyasa” or “flow.” This blended approach helps students develop body-awareness and ultimately assists students along their journey of self-discovery. Modifications are taught to empower students to individualize their practice.
Alignment-based I / II
Based on the teachings of the yogi B.K.S Iyengar, this style of yoga is most concerned with body alignment. In yoga, the word alignment is used to describe the precise way in which your body should be positioned in each pose in order to avoid injury and obtain the maximum benefits. Iyengar practice emphasizes longer holds in the poses (versus moving more quickly from one pose to the next - flow). Also, Iyengar practice encourages the use of props, such as yoga blankets, blocks and straps, in order to bring the body into alignment.
Alignment-based II / III

Beginners Yoga
This class is for students with limited or no experience with yoga, although more seasoned students are always welcome. This class covers all the basics and is strongly recommended before moving on to the next level. Instruction is alignment-based. Areas covered include Sun Salutations, asanas (e.g. standing poses, back bending postures, forward bends, twists, inversions and restoratives), introductory breath work and the beginning stages of meditation.
Candle-lit evening yoga
Unwind your day with Candle-lit Yoga. We will start with Sun Salutations then move into opening the hips and hamstrings. Depending on the needs of the room, we may work with the yoga wall. Expect to to do some restoritive postures as well. Each candle-lit class ends with a long Savasana.
Hatha
Hatha represents opposing energies: hot and cold (fire and water, following similar concept as yin-yang), male and female, positive and negative. Hatha yoga attempts to balance mind and body via physical postures (asanas), purification practices, controlled breathing, and the calming of the mind through relaxation and meditation. Asanas teach poise, balance & strength and are practiced to improve the body's physical health and clear the mind in preparation for meditation in the pursuit of enlightenment.
In-studio Private Instruction
For those individuals who would prefer a one-on-one class or may have specific physical restrictions, we offer private in-studio instruction.
Restorative
Restorative Yoga focuses on relaxing the body in restful postures. Note that 'rest' is different than sleep. Rest provides the body an opportunity to renew and heal. Countless studies have proven the physical and emotional benefits of this.
Restorative yoga, as well as other forms of yoga, help to trigger the Parasympathetic nervous system also known as the PNS. The PNS is responsible for balancing the body and bringing its response system back into equilibrium. Stimulating the PNS helps to lower heart rate, blood pressure; it helps to healthily stimulate the immune system and keep the endocrine system operating healthily. When this system gets out of whack, or when the Sympathetic nervous system, SNS gets over-stimulated, the PNS helps to bring all back in balance. It is believed that is the PNS is tapped out or under-active, illness pervades. Thus, forms of relaxation, such as yoga and meditation, that help to stimulate the PNS are generally beneficial for overall body health.
Rise & Shine with Yoga
This class is a great way to start your day. Each class will include Tibetan rites, Sun Salutations, standing poses and the hip series - all in 1 hour.
Vinyasa Flow
The term vinyasa has multiple meanings. Literally translated, vinyasa is "a carefully placed step." Vinyasa also means synchronizing movements with the breath. This class combines asanas (poses) in a graduated sequence of rhythmic movements of body and breath to create a dynamic, challenging and meditative flow. In other words, the teacher instructs students to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or exhale. This class is appropriate for advanced beginners to very experienced practitioners. |
